Call for volunteers | Creation of sound artwork by Piero Mottola

Take part in the creation of a new sound artwork !

The Museum has invited artist Piero Mottola to take part in its next exhibition. Exploring the relationship between the voice and emotions, Mottola is proposing to create a symphony called "Geneva Humanitarian Voices", which will be previewed at the Museum during the opening of the exhibition on 2 October 2024.

We are looking for adults working in the humanitarian sector who are keen to take part and experiment with their voices. Volunteers come to the Museum by appointment during the week of 18 to 22 March to spend around 40 minutes with the artist. Meetings are one-to-one. During the sessions, the artist asks each volunteer to express themselves through vocalisms, or to repeat sounds that are linked to emotions such as fear, joy, anger or love.

All participants are free to give or withhold their agreement to the recording of the session and to the use of the recordings in the creation of the piece.

This work allows the artist to collect sounds and noises emitted by the participants, which will then be used to write a symphony. Participation in the sound-gathering sessions is not a prerequisite for taking part in the live performance.

  • Availability required: 40 minutes during the week of 18 to 22 March at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum (av. de la Paix 17, 1202 Geneva).
  • A musical education is not required
