Workshop with Marco Donnarumma
From 19.07.2025 to 20.07.2025
Sensory reconfiguration: machines to break down the 'normal'
In connection with the temporary exhibition Tuning In - Acoustique de l'émotion, the Museum invites you to a workshop with artist Marco Donnarumma on 19 and 20 July 2025.
This two-day workshop is dedicated to deaf and hard-of-hearing people with a knowledge of French Sign Language. Together, the artist and participants will explore methods of designing, engineering and hand-making sensors, robotics and prostheses that capture and mobilise the variety and uniqueness of perception.
The workshop will take place on Saturday and Sunday, and translation into LSF will be provided. Access to the workshop is free and requires registration.
"Western society teaches that there is only one system of perception, i.e. that of the capable and productive body. But there are as many ways of perceiving as there are bodies. I see being deaf as another way of listening. In this sense, listening happens in another complex sensory context where haptics, vision and proprioception combine with different intensities. Considering perception as a realm of multiplicities opens up infinite possibilities for artistic experience. Body technologies, such as sensors, robotics and prostheses, also play an important role: they can be normative, in the sense that they force a body to conform to “normality”, or they can be imaginative, controversial and autonomous."
