Getting here

We encourage visitors to use green modes of transport. The Museum is located in Geneva’s international district, close to the ICRC and the United Nations and immediately adjacent to the Appia bus stop. There are also cycling lanes and paths nearby.

On foot

  • From Place des Nations, take a peaceful stroll through Parc de l’Ariana (approx. 10 minutes).
  • From Petit-Saconnex or Grand-Morillon, head along the vehicle-free Allée David-Morse.
  • From the Botanical Garden, exit towards Place des Nations and reach the Parc de l'Ariana (approx. 15 minutes); or exit towards the pond, walk uphill until you reach the Château de Penthes, then head downhill along Avenue de la Paix (approx. 30 minutes).

By bus

  • From Geneva Cornavin station, take bus 8 or 20 (towards Valavran) or 60 or 61 express (towards Gex-L’Aiglette) and get off at the Appia stop. The 61 operates at peak times from Monday to Friday only.
  • From Geneva Airport, take bus 5 (towards Thônex-Vallard), get off at the Le Pommier stop, then take bus 22 (towards Jardin Botanique) and get off at the Appia stop.

By bike
Take the cycling path along Avenue de la Paix and leave your bike in the parking facility by the Museum entrance.

By car

  • From the centre of Geneva, follow signs for “Palais des Nations (ONU)”.
  • From the A1 motorway, take the Grand-Saconnex exit and head towards Geneva.

We recommend you leave your vehicle in the nearest car park, which is located at Place des Nations (approx. 10 minutes away on foot).

If you hold a disabled parking permit, we have one dedicated space in the service car park on Avenue Appia.

Catering

The ICRC cafeteria is open Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. It also boasts one of the best views of the city!

If you are coming as a group, we recommend you book in advance by e-mail directly with the ICRC cafeteria.

Audioguide

Our audio guide for the permanent exhibition (included in the admission fee) is available in eight languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.

We also have two special versions for younger visitors: one for children aged 8–12 years, and another for teenagers (both in French only).

Lockers

The cloakroom is located near the reception on the ground floor of the Museum.

The lockers are free to use, but you’ll need a 1-franc or 1-euro coin to operate them. The largest lockers are 56 cm high, 45 cm wide and 52 cm deep. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate bags that exceed these dimensions at this time.

As a hub serving the local community, the Museum welcomes all visitors – we’ll do our best to meet your needs.

Our staff are on hand to make your visit as smooth as possible. We also work with non-profits and foundations to make sure our premises and facilities meet accessibility standards.

Thank you for giving us your feedback. It will help us to improve.

Services for visitors with disabilities

Visitors with reduced mobility

The Museum has one car space for visitors with reduced mobility. It’s located next to the service entrance on Avenue Appia.

The public areas, lifts and exhibition rooms are fully accessible for wheelchair users. The exhibition areas can be accessed via a stairlift (you’ll need a “Euro key” to operate it).

At reception, you can pick up a mobility map and borrow a wheelchair (two are available) or a folding stool.

If possible, please contact us ahead of your arrival so we can make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Visitors with a visual impairment

Blind and partially sighted visitors can take an audio-described tour (in French only) of our permanent exhibition. The tour lasts for around 90 minutes. Narrated by two voices, it brings the spaces, atmosphere and exhibits to life, as well as featuring personal accounts and moments of reflection.

Visitors with a hearing impairment

For visitors who wear a hearing aid with a “T” setting, we have a hearing loop system in operation.

Visitors with cognitive or learning impairments

We run “step-by-step” guided tours for visitors with cognitive or learning impairments. The tours can accommodate five or six people, so as to include family members and friends.

Reachable culture

For a detailed description of the Museum's spaces and access arrangements, and to prepare for your visit, head to the accessible culture website (in French only).

If you need any further assistance, don't hesitate to contact us. We'll be happy to help.
