Arm prosthesis
Description
Since 1979 the ICRC has developed a physical rehabilitation programme that encourages the use of context-appropriate technologies, taking into account that the ICRC often operates war-affected and low-income countries or low-income countries. The technology must also be adapted to the needs of patients in those countries. Therefore, the technologies adopted should be: sustainable, comfortable, easy to use and maintain; easy for technicians to learn and repair; standardised but compatible with the climate in different parts of the world; cheap, but modern and in line with internationally accepted standards; and easy to obtain.
